Customers on a diet? Don’t make them give up dessert: offer them a dish of tasty fruit-flavored gelato
Gelato, of course, is a popular dessert. In the past it has been unfairly demonized as being fatty and high in calories, but now dieticians have determined that it is a healthy, nutritious food, even on a diet when used properly.
Gelato is a balanced food and has all of the nutritional value of other foods, including protein, sugars and fats. As such, eating too much can cause you to gain wait, as would happen with any other food. Nonetheless, a bit of careful calculations can help to find the ideal gelato dessert to satisfy both the palate and the waistline.
All you need to do is approximate the calories of the various ingredients (1g of sugars = 4 calories; 1g of fats = 9 calories; 1g of protein = 4 calories) in order to see that fruit-flavored gelato has far fewer calories than cream-flavored, which contains both fats and sugars. A good sorbet can be even better on a diet, as long as it’s not overdone, of course.
As one of the most pleasing moments of a lunch or dinner, for many people a delicious dessert is something they feel they have to give up in order to stay in shape. So remember to supplement your dessert menu with a variety of fruit-flavored gelatos in order to satisfy the sweet tooth even of those who like to keep an eye on their weight!
